Bat Boxes at Shubie Park

Just before Halloween, our crafty Nature Guardians made and erected a bat box at Shubie Park in Dartmouth, using design specifications from the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Thin and wide, with a ridged inside so they can climb up, and stained black so they stay nice and toasty, we took every aspect of bat biology into consideration when we were making them a home. We will monitor the box over the next few months to see if it attracts any new settlers or, if it doesn’t, consider moving it to a better location. If you’d like to create space for bats at home or the cottage, check out the design we used from CWF.
