PhotosNovember 26, 2014December 10, 2014 “Beavers” fleeing “coyotes” as part of a predator-prey game. Some of the “beavers” got pretty clever with their predator-avoidance strategies, including staying in safe spots till the coast was clear. Amy pointing out neat features of the specimens and telling us about the life history of beavers (and a little about coyotes). Beavers have one different claw on their body that is split, like a tiny comb. They use it like a comb to get mud out of their fur, and to comb in waterproofing oils. The dam! We could see old and new vegetation on it… a constant work in progress. Butch led us to some freshly cut trees and shrubs, full of chew marks, and surrounded by wood chips! The tell-tale sign of a nearby beaver. Caught ya! Nighttime surveillance photos by Butch of the beaver working at the site we visited. Beaver burning the (near) midnight (castor) oil!
