Description

Our Nature Guardians Chapter will be starting off the new year with a trip to the Museum of Natural History for a geology-inspired scavenger hunt. Our adventurer friend Matt Lewis has just returned from a very long trip to a mysterious location somewhere in the world, and he brought us some rocks! We are going to try and guess where he went by the rocks he brought back, and take a look through the museum’s impressive rock collection. To wrap up we will come together and brainstorm some activity plans for the spring.

The YNC is a nature club geared toward youth and their families. Our programs run from September through June every year, and take place at fascinating natural spaces around the province. At YNC field trips and special events, we learn from expert naturalists, explore local parks & trails, and experience the many fascinating natural phenomena that make Nova Scotia so awesome.

Nature Guardians is a program just for 10-14 year olds, where no parent or guardian supervision is required on our once-a-month field trip. Nature Guardians lead hands-on conservation projects in the HRM and, of course, we have fun! This program takes an open, group-oriented approach where our youth participants help plan what we do each month. Recently, the Nature Guardians planned and implemented a number of stewardship projects at Shubie Park in Dartmouth, including native species plantings, on-going water quality monitoring, and nest box installations. Are your nature nuts interested in real conservation action? New participants are always welcome!

Because parent/guardian supervision is not required, all Nature Guardian trips and events require an RSVP so that we can plan for managing group size safely. Thanks for your planning and understanding!

Check out our Events page for upcoming Nature Guardian events. You can join at ANYTIME throughout the year!
