You don’t have to be a member to participate in YNC events, we welcome everyone! You may find, though, that events fill up quickly and priority may be given to current members if an event reaches its safety or logistical maximum. A yearly membership to the Young Naturalists Club is $25 and gives your family:

  1. Access to your chapter’s regular monthly events, which includes on average 10 events each year – field trips, hikes, and other outdoor and nature-focused events. At these events, you have access to natural history experts and are guided by YNC volunteers. These are fantastic opportunities for kids to learn about the species and ecosystems of Nova Scotia and for families to discover wild outdoor spaces.
  2. Notification of family-friendly, nature-focused events led by other organizations. We have many partners and friends in the natural history world, and will let YNC families know of events led by other organizations that have a focus on the natural features of Nova Scotia, especially events that get kids active outdoors. For some events, like Nature Nova Scotia’s annual Celebration of Nature, YNC members may even get free or early-bird reduced pricing access!
  3. Membership in our not-for-profit society, which includes voting privileges (one vote per family) at the YNC AGM. The YNC is an incorporated, not-for-profit society in Nova Scotia, with charitable status through the Canada Revenue Agency. Registered members have a say in the organization. And supporting our organization through membership means you are meaningfully supporting nature education for children in Nova Scotia. We are growing the next generation of nature-lovers!

*Please note, the Nature Guardians Chapter has attendance caps for most events. You may want to get in touch with the chapter leader to make sure there is space for more attendees before registering your membership.

How to sign up:

Enter your family’s information into the form below, remembering to include your names, children’s ages, and local chapter selection. We also appreciate information about how you found the YNC. Once all our information is entered, hit “Sign Up” and you’ll automatically be added our e-list! Some chapters, like our Halifax family chapter and the Nature Guardians tweens chapter, organize via email list, so make sure you check those chapters to get updates in your inbox. Other chapters may be more likely to organize via Facebook group. In either case, we’ll send you an email when you first join with instructions for how to follow along.

Optional: You can then move on to the payment bubble below, where you’ll be directed to our checkout page and you can purchase your yearly membership. You will get a confirmation email after both registering and paying. That’s it! Your chapter leader will be in touch to welcome you to the Club and to notify you of upcoming events.

If you have any troubles, our Coordinator Becky Parker can be reached at 902-412-2726 or YNCNS@YNCNS.ca

*The Young Naturalists Club is an inclusive organization. We understand that a yearly membership fee may present a financial barrier to participating for some families. Please reach out to your Chapter Leader or the YNC Coordinator to discuss options for getting your family involved in our organization. The Young Naturalists Club is also welcoming of all national origins, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities. If there is anything you would like us to know before meeting in person, please feel free to fill out our “Is there anything you would like us to know?” section of the sign up form below.
