PhotosOctober 26, 2014December 10, 2014 Chris Wood welcomed our group to Blue Beach Fossil Museum. The museum is filled with fossils and information about prehistoric life. There were 80 of us there that day(!), thanks in part to a free bus ride from Halifax courtosy of McInnes Cooper! Photo by Peter Gamble. Chris gave us all idenfitication sheets, showing us the 8 main types of fossils found at the site, including fossils of rain drops, waves, tree bark, worm tubes, and more. 350 million years ago, the area where the museum resides now was at the edge of a sea. That’s why at this site we find fossils of living things and environmental events that took place at the ocean’s shore. Fantastic worm tube fossil. Who knew we’d be admiring these “lowly” creatures’ work 350 million years later! Fossil of “tree” bark. The trees of 350 million years ago looked kind of like a tall fern with a woody, checkered trunk (see here). Down to the beach. Everyone had amazing fossil finds, including finding the types of fossils we were told about! Photo by ‘Peter Gamble. Great find! Everyone got to go home with their fossil finds, if they wanted to.
