Description

Field trip to Otter Ponds Demonstration Forest

Otter Ponds Demonstration Forest is a collaborative forestry project, showcasing the Acadian forest and sustainable forestry management. We’ll walk the trails of the Otter Ponds woods, and learn about forest ecology from Otter Ponds partner Kate Campbell. Want to learn about ecological forestry in Nova Scotia? Then this is the trip for you!

Otter Ponds is near Mooseland, NS, which is about a 1 hour 30 min drive from Halifax. This is further than most of our field trips, but about once a year we do like to do a field trip further afield to go somewhere really special. And because it is further away, we plan to offer a bus option for those who would like to go by bus (i.e., school bus rented from Stock Transportation). The bus ride is free, but we would welcome a small donation to help the Club cover the cost. Please let us know if you would like to use this transportation option.

Detailed driving directions will be given to those who register, and details of where to meet the bus will be given to those who register for that travel option. Register by sending an email to Karen at ynchalifax (at) yncns.ca

For the field trip, please wear appropriate clothing (bring rain gear if needed) and sturdy footwear (close-toed), and bring drinking water. You are welcome to bring a snack too!
