Fungi are super cool critters. We love going for mushroom walks at the YNC, but with a dwindling number of old-school naturalist experts to guide us and very few kid-focused resources available, we have often had trouble fully engaging in the diversity of fungi around us. So! In the summer of 2022, with the support of Nature Canada’s Naturehood program and the help of the awesome people at the Nova Scotia Mycological Society and Saint Mary’s University undergrad student MacKenzie Foster, we set out to create a kid- and family-friendly field guide that doubled as an activity booklet to educate and entertain newbie mushroom enthusiasts. This is that guide! We hope it helps your family get out and explore your “naturehood!”

We can take credit card via the online shop here, or catch us at the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm’s “Warm Up to Winter” market on Nov 19th to pay with cash. Online orders open on Nov 20th.
We’ll be mailing orders weekly on Mondays, starting on Nov 21st and ending on Dec 12th, so make sure your order is in by end of day Dec 11th at the latest. We’re only taking orders while supplies last, so it’s definitely possible we could run out before the 11th.
