December 21st 2013 – 1st Berwick Winter Solstice Bird Count

At last months event Bernard Forsythe prepared us for the identification of common winter birds and in the morning on the 21st of December (Winter Solstice) we went for a walk in the woods and then observed and counted the birds. We didn’t see very many birds on this snowy day but the feeding station was active. Here is what we saw at the backyard feeding station throughout the day:

  • 5 Bluejays
  • 6 Juncos
  • 3 Chickadees
  • 2 Downy Woodpeckers
  • 2 Hairy Woodpecker
  • 1 Song Sparrow
  • 2 Tree Sparrows
  • 3 Gold Finches
