Nature Guardians – Willow Planting

Date/Time

Description

Join us for our first Nature Guardians session of the 2023-2024 program year!

The Nature Guardians are our “tweens”-only chapter based in the Halifax area. We meet once per month (usually on the last Saturday of each month) to work on a conservation action project somewhere in the community: bat boxes, naturalization gardens, pollinator plantings, beach cleanups, and more!

In September, we’re gathering at Shubie Park to add some wet-adapted willow shrubs to our shoreline restoration garden near the dog beach. We continually find elevated nutrient and E.coli levels at this location when we do water quality monitoring, so we’ve been adding plants to the shoreline and working on public interpretation signage to educate people about the risks of unclaimed dog waste to see if we can make a difference!

We’ll meet at 2pm by the picnic tables in front of the Fairbanks Centre, head to the beach to work on our project until just before 5pm, then we’ll meet parents and guardians back at the tables right at 5pm. Remember your layers, comfortable footwear, water bottle, and snack. Shovels also welcome!
