Native Seed Collecting at Shubie Park – Dartmouth

In 2018, the Nature Guardians YNC chapter planted a number of native species along some degraded shoreline and trailways in Shubie Park as part of our ongoing restoration work. This fall, we collected some seed stock for species we would like to experiment with and, hopefully, add to our restored sections next spring. Our findings included some red oak acorns, red spruce, black spruce, and white pine seeds, some rose hips, and aster and goldenrod seed pods. We pocketed our loot for future greenhouse propagation and took some time to offer our extra stock to some friendly chickadees.
